   <summary>No Wave was one of the first post-punk genres to emerge in the late '70s. It was an atonal, dissonant and experimental group of bands that were consciously pushing the limits of rock music; in that sense, it was more like performance art than music.Though the movement didn't exist outside of New York, it managed to worm its way into alternative music in the mid-'80s through the feedback-laden, sonic experimentations of Sonic Youth.
