Highlights:

  • The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provides an online treatment locator which contains various information useful to selecting a treatment facility. SAMHSA's Office of Applied Studies maintains this service. The online treatment locator includes information on those State approved treatment facilities that provide services in languages other than English. To find these facilities, click here.

  • In 2000, 18 percent of persons 5 years or older in the United States (about 47 million persons)  spoke a language other than English at home.

  • Of all substance abuse treatment facilities providing methadone/ LAAM treatment, about half provided treatment in languages other than English.  

  • Facilities providing treatment in languages other than English tended to be larger than English-only facilities.
