<h4>Oratorio</h4> A setting of an extended text, originally religious, but now secular as well, for vocal soloists, chorus and orchestra. Originating in seventeenth century Rome. Throughout its history, it has closely followed the operatic styles of the time, but without the scenery, costuming or acting.
