Eight of the songs from this album were originally written for the game Omikron: The Nomad Soul. "What's Really Happening" was the result of Bowie's 1998 "cybersong contest" in which fans sent in their own lyrics to music Bowie had created. Bowie chose the winning lyrics himself.
