He was an architecture student, and when he was 18 he was also a drummer for the band 'The Burning Effigy' and a covers band called 'Toledo Moon'. He knew Shane at the time of the auditions and was very keen to meet up with Louis Walsh. He didn't have much luck, but by coincidence Louis spotted him one night up on stage at the POD, and invited him along to the second round of the auditions. He performed Billy Joel's song 'Piano Man', and like the rest of the band he did a dance routine to Right Said Fred's 'I'm Too Sexy'.
