Biography:

Jori Chisholm has emerged as one of North America's premier professional pipers. Jori has made his mark on the international competitive piping scene winning top prizes, including the first-ever United States Gold Medal Piping Championship, the Royal Scottish Pipers' Society Bronze Star for First Place in the 'A' Marches at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban, and Runner-Up in the Silver Medal Piobaireachd at the Northern Meeting in Inverness -- all on his first attempt. In 2003, Jori placed in the top four in the Gold Medal competition at Inverness. In addition, Jori played with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band when they won the 2001 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. A native of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Jori started piping at age 11 with instruction from Colin MacKenzie. Jori credits Colin for instilling in him a deep passion for the pipes, and particularly for Piobaireachd -- the classical music of the Highland bagpipe. Jori found early success on the competition scene, winning the Most Promising Amateur Piper prize at the B.C. Indoor Meet two years in a row. In 1998, Jori won top awards at the Nicol-Brown Chalice and at the George Sheriff Memorial Invitational, two of the world's most prestigious amateur solo events. Also in that year, Jori joined the SFU Pipe Band. In April 2001, he performed in concert with the SFU Pipe Band at the Sydney Opera House. The performance was released as a CD recording. Jori graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Psychology with Phi Beta Kappa Honors. He lives in Seattle and teaches piping to students of all ages and skill levels -- some traveling from as far away as Bellingham and Portland. He welcomes new students at this time.
