Biography: Michael Cuccione: An inspiration to us all
On January 5, 1985, an angel was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada to Dominic and Gloria Cuccione (Ku-chee-oh-nee). Michael Cuccione lived in a loving family with his parents, brother Steven, and sister Sophia.
Michael began his acting career when he was about eight. He got a few appearances on various things such as commercials, and shows such as Baywatch and Smart Guy.
In 1996, Michael was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease (a form of cancer). However, Michael was strong, and overcame the disease twice. When he was 11 years old, he was on tv twice with a thing called Making a Difference with a few songs that he had written. It was to raise money for cancer research. He also had written a book with his grandmother entitled: There Are Survivors: The Michael Cuccione Story.
When he was just at the verge of becoming 15, Michael got his big break in the acting/music industry. He landed the role of girl-crazy QT in MTV's first-ever original tv movie, 2Ge+her, which was later turned into a weekly series. In an interveiw with Popstar! Magazine (November 2000) Michael said of his character, "...I'm 15, so I'm pretty girl-crazy like QT. ...But other than that I'm pretty different." 2Ge+her was a great experience for Michael. Said Michael of his experiences with it, "...this is beyond my wildest dreams. I am living out of my dreams" (Page 57-8).
Not only did Michael live out of his own dreams, but he also helped accomplish those dreams of others with his continuing desire to help sick kids, as well as bringing smiles to all of his well-deserved fans.
Sadly, on January 13th of 2001, Michael's short life was ended only eight days after his 16th birthday. Through earlier chemotherapy, Michael's lungs had been weakened, and after a car accident, Michael developed pneumonia and was put in a hospital on December 4th, 2000. On that dark day of January, Michael's lungs just gave out, and he died that Saturday night.
Over a year after his death, he has not been forgotten, and is still thought of daily, and will remain a part of our lives and our hearts forever.
In a continuous effort to keep Michael's dreams alive, it would be much appreciated if donations could be made to his foundation for research on childhood cancer.
