Manic Street Preachers - This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours

TIMTTMY is a nice album. There is no escaping that fact, it's nice. But is that a good thing. Back in the days of Richey, how would Manics fans have taken the news of an album containing absoloutley no "heavy" or "rocky" songs? But this is excatly what TIMTTMY is. Does it suffer at all for its lack of anger or grit?

Well, not really. From the The Everlasting (begins quietly and then creeps into a giant epic) to SYMM (just plain weird) TIMTTMY is nice in the true sense of the word, not the sense used by rock fans to describe an album which is crap and wussy.

The songs do what songs should do, and that is touch the soul, alter the emotions of the listener. Hearing James shout "Inbetween, inbetween, inbetween, inbetween" in Tsunami is truly a moving experience. Black Dog On My Shoulder will make you smile, and Born A Girl will make you cry. The songs are nice, which might put off some hardcore fans, but who cares if they're nice - they're good!

Lyrically, this is the first album to be entirely written by Nicky Wire, and this apparent in the quietness and contemplatativeness of the songs. Where The Holy Bible was Richey Edwards' dark and strange masterpieace, this is Nicky Wire's quiet and chilled out, well, masterpiece is too strong a word, it's simply a very good album, which I would recommend to anyone who appreciates that rock and roll does not have to rock.
