Ghosts of the Future is a special, limited edition box set released on ten 7 Inch discs over the course of about nine months, starting at the very end of July 2007 and concluding in April 2008. Initial sets were pressed on varying colors of vinyl, while later sets were pressed on regular black. Additionally, very early preorders included inserts autographed by Jason Martin. A special wood box was included for housing the discs and inserts.
The faux record label designs originally featured in the "Gold" album's booklet were used for real in this set, with track and label names modified correspondingly.
As originally announced, the first side of each single was to be a demo recording from the forthcoming album (which would become Dial M), and each B-side would be exclusive to this set. This format remained true with minor exceptions: the acoustic "Mr. Martin" was used on the album instead of the a-side electric version, while "Black Jacket" as an album track was swapped out for "Altercation." Also, the entire series of songs was released unaltered in 2009's Ghosts of the Past compilation.
