This memorial piping competition, held at the Cabarfeidh Hotel in Stornoway, is one of the top ranking contests of its kind in the world and celebrates the life and work of one of the greatest pipers who ever lived.
The competition is a fitting tribute to the late Pipe Major Donald Macleod, one of the outstanding pipers of the 20th century, who died in 1982. Organised by the Lewis and Harris Piping Society, the event has achieved the status of being a major date on the professional circuit. Eight of the world's current top pipers take to the stage hoping to capture the main award - and half the tunes played are MacLeod's compositions.
