The Clash...This Time, with Production Quality!

If one were to come up with a dominant musical style for this album, ska would probably come closest. Either that, or just straight Alternative. Its not punk, so don't be expecting it. Even with the presence of the annoying gangsta rap version of Stay or Go, this album is a great tribute. I like all the songs on here not only because they do a good job presenting the material, but because the interpretations are so different. You have one group trying to sound as much like the original as possibile, all they way down to the Indigo Girls, who don't try to sound anything like it. I particularly like the way the artists brought out the understated background instrumentation of the originals and made them much more part of the foreground. Now, to all those who panned the album, what did you expect? All these groups to sound just like the Clash? Go out and listen to the originals, then for crying out loud! The whole idea of a cover is TO REINTERPRET THE MUSIC. That's what's going on here. Its not just reproduction. So listen to it with an open mind this time.
