Editalls play an important role in the MusicMoz community. They lead other editors by both example and forum participation. They provide quality control, editorial integrity, clean, intuitive taxonomy and overall consistency throughout the Project. Editall is granted to certain editors who have displayed a good grasp of MusicMoz's guidelines and purpose, and good editing skills. We encourage all editors to aspire to editall permission.
In addition to the standard suite of editing tools, editalls have access to several additional powerful tools to help them in their work.
The editall dashboard contains the following additions to the standard editor dashboard:
The editall category edit screen contains the following additions to the regular edit screen:
In addition to the above, editalls have the following tools:
Category moves and renames should not be done arbitrarily or on the spur of the moment. It is important for such actions to reflect the community's consensus, as well as editing standards and guidelines. The object of moving and renaming categories is to better organise the Project's data and to ease the end user in finding the information he or she seeks.
Category moves and renames should be widely agreed upon by the editors involved in the affected areas of the Project hierarchy. In general a forum discussion should be started and consensus reached before any changes or reorganisation takes place. Once consensus has been reached, the editors involved can request a category move or rename by posting in the appropriate threads in the Ontology or World forums.
Editalls are expected to use their judgment in minor moves and renames, which correct, for example, spelling and capitalisation errors, or bring categories into agreement with editing standards and templates. If there is any doubt about a change, the proposal should be discussed and agreed upon in the editor forums before anything is done. In all instances, affected editors should be notified of changes being made to the category hierarchy in which they edit.
This feature appears as the 8th edit command on the category edit screen (note that top-level categories cannot be renamed or moved). Click this, and a form appears where you can enter where you want to move the category to. You must then click apply. A form will appear requesting confirmation for the move.
Once you have finished setting up a move, it will go to the Category Move Queue, which is linked to on your dashboard. Please note that moves are not instantaneous, particularly if there are other requests in the queue. Also note that if the category had sort priority set, this will have to be reset for the category's new name.
When submitting a category move or rename, please note the following:
Editalls can delete categories with listed editors, as long as the category has no subcategories, no @links, no items, and no links pointing to it. This tool should be used only with extreme caution; it is almost never appropriate to do this, except as part of an agreed upon reorganisation, or when deleting wildly inappropriate subcategories. In most instances, asking the affected editor to resign from the category in question before deleting it is preferable.
Editalls have the ability to name up to one editor to new categories as they create them. To do this, type the editor's name in the text box on the category creation form. This tool should be used with extreme caution. It is not meant to give editalls meta-like abilities to decide on the promotion or expansion of editing responsibility of category editors, but should be used as a tool to facilitate, in a natural way, reorganisations of the Project hierarchy.
Carefully review an editor's editing history before taking this step. If there is any doubt, decisions should be left to the meta editor community.
Points to consider when evaluating an editor before naming her or him to a new category include:
If you have any doubts or questions regarding these points, or you are not comfortable naming editors to new categories, please feel free to defer the decision to a meta editor.
Editalls have the ability to change the string used in the links to search engines at the bottom of category pages. This allows them to use much more descriptive terms which are more likely to return results relating to the content of the category.
This feature is listed as the 11th edit command on the category edit screen (9th for top level categories, although you should never need to set the search term for such a category.) Simply enter the new search string in the text box, and click apply.
This tool, also known as the chainsaw, allows items to be moved en masse either into unreviewed or another category. It is a powerful tool and should be used with caution. It can be used, for example, if a more specific subcategory is created, in which several sites belong. It is listed just above where the items of the category themselves are listed.
These tools are similar to the normal Power Unreviewed Edit, except they will list all unreviewed submissions, or, in the case of Super Fish Unreviewed Edit, just the non-URL type unreviewed submissions, for a category and all of its subcategories. Because of this, be careful when using it on a category with many unreviewed submissions. These tools have been designed to assist editalls in locating parts of the Project where unreviewed items need to be tended to. In addition to the standard information that is displayed on the Unreviewed Edit screen, the Super and Super Fish Unreviewed Edit also lists the category in which the item is sitting.
MusicMoz Staff reserves the right to change and/or update these guidelines at any time.
Although staff has the final say over the contents of the editing guidelines, suggestions from editors are very valuable.
For simple corrections, such as misspellings, an e-mail to staff is sufficient. Any larger changes, or suggested inclusions, should be discussed in the editor forums, and agreed on by editors, before being presented to staff.
