"From Chaos" Brings Clarity

The first time I listened to this album, I thought the boys of 311 may have started slipping. While a few tracks stood out as great right away, some of the others left me wondering. But as I listened to it again, I found myself unable to remove it from my CD player. After the third listen, I realized 311 had released what could be their best album thus far. Who could resist bobbing their head to "You Get Worked", the opening track? The second song, "Sick Tight", not only rocks, but conveys a level of confidence and awareness that many bands could learn from. Having seen these guys play live, I was especially touched by the lyrics, "We keep an eye for each other, then again, our known associates endure. We keep a sick tight connection when we see our true people on tour." The body rocking continues from there in a non-stop assault on the listener's funky-bone. My favorites include "From Chaos", "Full Ride", "I Told Myself", and "Amber". These guys know how to be heavy, as well has how to be sweet. "Uncalm" proves that a love song doesn't have to be cheesy to be romantic, while "Hostile Apostle" addresses the increasing trend of hard-core bands that equate pessimism with hard rock. All in all, I think this is an outstanding album. Once you buy it, you won't be able to stop listening.

311-Coming Original, Consistently

311 has been one of my favorite bands since discovering them in 1993. Their masterful blend of lyrically strong rap, rock, funk, and reggae provides any music fan-of any genre-an enjoyable and, more than anything, fun listening experience, something hard to come by in these days of superficial, and marketed pop singers and boy bands. Their latest release, From Chaos, is no different. It sounds more like a blend of their last release, Soundsystem (one of my favorite records of all time, though most critics won't agree) and their 1995 self-titled album than anything else, which, if you agree with me, is a good thing. The songs flow at a surprisingly varying rate, but still keep the same feel throughout the album, and the first single, "You Wouldn't Believe" is an amazing summary of what the whole album is about, and a great choice for a first single. The only flaw is the dragging verses, which aren't as varied as I would like them to be, but that doesn't make them non-enjoyable....there just isn't enough space between rap-heavy, dueling intros, and slow, groovy, reggae songs. So, all in all, 311-From Chaos offers a groovy, enjoyable, consitently fresh record, and a sure favorite for REAL music fans.

Exquisite and flawless work

Allow me to express how in awe I am right now. Got the point? I shall begin my review of 'From Chaos'. Although I've always admired 311 and liked a few of their songs here and there, I never became what you would probably consider a complete "fan" until a few months ago. I got three of their albums ('Evolver', 'Soundsystem', and 'Transistor') last month and was extremely impressed, especially with 'Soundsystem'. I remembered loving "You Wouldn't Believe" and "Amber", and wanted to purchase the 'From Chaos' album. After a month of looking for it, I found it today...and my CD collection will never be the same. I don't see what this negativity is about - this is a BEAUTIFUL album. Not only is 311 the most original band out there, this album just flows. I am ecstatic about it. I can see this becoming one of my favorite CDs of all time. I like every song on here (that's rare). Standouts are "Amber" (I still haven't gotten sick of it), "You Wouldn't Believe", "Uncalm", and "Champagne." Tim Mahoney is among the best guitarists I've ever heard and even though many reviews on here proclaimed Nick Hexum's voice to be monotone, I find it to be beautiful and soothing. All in all, a wonderful album. Amazing. I recommend it to anyone - 311 fan, not 311 fan, someone who's never HEARD of 311 - ANYBODY. This album is perfection and I'm not sure how I've went this long without it.

From Greatness

Another perfectly put together CD from the greatest band in the world 311. This album is a mix of mainly Rock, 2 nice laid back songs, and a great energized song. My personal favorite for this Album would have to be between Amber, Champagne, and Uncalm.

Why!?

311 is one of the greatest bands of all time. They combine hip-hop, rock, and raegae in a very unique style. I just have one thing to ask. Why do they include bonus tracks on foreign cds? THE U.S. NEEDS THESE TOO.
