Biography: Silver Atlas

Silver Atlas is the result of a collaboration between Alan Ruffin and Jason Lichon. The duo formed the group in Chicago in the summer of 2001. They released their first album, "4 a.m.," on Infinite Buddha Records a year later, and then assembled a band and began doing live shows shortly thereafter. In 2005 the band released their second album, "Layover." As on their first album the band explores several genres and moods simultaneously. Low-key soul, beat infested rock, and up-tempo house all add to the allure of this amazing album. So where does Silver Atlas take us this time? Destination: Layover! A more organic feel, using live drums and percussion to produce a hybrid groove of electronic and human beats. While the core creative direction is managed by founders Ruffin and Lichon, the addition of players Rex Espinosa and John Mastro has added instrumental virtuosity to the band's bag of tricks.
